(Sarajevo, March 10, 2020) - More than one hundred judicial officers from BiH gained practical knowledge about the implementation of the new Asset Seizure Module through trainings organised in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Mostar and Tuzla in February and March 2020.   The trainings are organised within the EU funded project " Building an Effective and Citizen-friendly Judiciary“ as a part of larger support of the European Union to the justice sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Module that is in use as of January 2020 will facilitate the procedures of data delivery and review of cases in which, following the proposal of the competent prosecutor offices, the court delivers the decision to seize the assets. In order to simplify the implementation of the new module and provide better understanding of the entire asset seizure process, the HJPC BiH, as the implementer of the project, presented the existent legal framework for the implementation of the module, the seizure methods, cash equivalents recorded in relation to the seized assets, as well as other advantages of the new Asset Seizure Module.  During the trainings, participants had the opportunity to gain practical experience on how to electronically record data in a module in specific cases of forfeiture.

Through discussion and exchange of the best practices, participants confirmed that the Asset Seizure Module would facilitate the acquisition, verification and submission of data.

"The advantage of applying this module will be to more effectively monitor the records of seized property and to equalize the value of seized property between the courts and the prosecutors' offices”, said Almir Račić, ICT officer and CMS administrator at Cantonal Court in Novi Travnik.

Tanja Gabela, CMS administrator at Sarajevo Municipal Court also emphasised the advantages of the new Module: "At the request of the party, we can quickly and easily obtain the requested data on the seized property, all thanks to the various reports that can be obtained using the module. Earlier, in order to get certain information, we had to go through a time consuming process of scrolling through the heavy registers and directories."

In addition to the regional trainings and the manuals provided to courts and prosecutors' offices in BiH to better use the newly developed Asset Seizure Module, HJPC BiH will further facilitate and monitor the quality implementation of the Module.
